I've been independently studying behavioral science for 3+ years, devouring any book on the topic. After casually telling colleagues at Citi how I use nudges to achieve my goals, I was immediately invited to be a guest speaker at "Insights Forum" - an internal meeting at Citi that fosters ideas, inspiration, and best practices.
I taught others the power of behavioral nudges and how to apply them personally and professionally.
Behavioral nudges influence choices, leading to better decision making. Nudges are subtle environmental changes that are easy to implement and do not restrict anything.
As Project Manager at SMART Elections, I managed the CountTheVote project where we performed an audit of the U.S. elections at precinct level. Advocacy work extended to educating volunteers same to replicate at national level.
I supported the Executive Director by developing strategies relating to digital content, volunteer management and retention, and organizational growth. My work supported project team members with their assignments in a fully remote organization.
In St. Pete, I organized for the Pinellas chapter of National Organization for Women. I chaired a racial justice committee and spearheaded community events focused on diversity and inclusion. Throughout my tenure, I scoped and managed the timeline for each project as well as grew organizational buy-in and developed interorganizational partnerships.
My managerial skills were exemplified when I orchestrated a relationship with the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum after a successful event I hosted at their venue. The event was a viewing of the documentary, "Zora Neale Hurston: Jump at the Sun" followed by a Q&A with the film's producer, Kristy Anderson, and the great-niece of Zora Neale Hurston, Dr. Lois Gaston. I publicized the event on WMNF Radio and it was listed in the Tampa Bay Times as "Top 5 Things To Do."
Most of 2019-2020 was spent on a self-taught sabbatical to improve my academic foundations. My coursework included reading "Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) - 6th Edition" as well as textbooks about Sustainable Development and Macrosociology. I also participated in MOOCs pertaining to Behavioral Economics, Social Psychology, and Design Thinking.
I am an active speaker with Toastmasters International and currently pursuing the "Innovative Planning pathway" which requires over a dozen projects relating to project management, change management, and risk management, as well as creating innovative solutions to obstacles. A recent speech at my Toastmasters club was about Prosci's ADKAR Model for driving change; I illustrated how a change manager is responsible for creating strategy, mitigating risk, anticipating resistance, and coaching individuals. Additionally, in preparation for the pathway's capstone project, I plan to prepare a 20-40 minute discussion panel about the legal and ethical implications of big data, best practices for making ethical decisions, and how to develop a framework for ethical data.
